Title: Road Technician – Dock & Door                           Job Type: Hourly – Non-Exempt

SUMMARY


The Road Technician – Dock & Door is responsible for demonstrating exceptional customer service while conducting mechanical repairs and/or service to internal and external customers’ equipment. The position is primarily responsible for traveling to customer sites, representing the company’s values, and ensuring that their equipment is serviced to the standards of Southwest Warehouse Solutions. This role involves the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of commercial dock levelers, overhead doors, vehicle restraints, seals, shelters, and related equipment at customer facilities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair commercial dock and door equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.

  • Perform routine maintenance, adjustments, and inspections to minimize downtime and ensure proper operation.

  • Communicate professionally with customers, explain the services performed, and recommend additional solutions as needed.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.

  • Accurately complete service documentation, including work orders and reports, in a timely manner.

  • Follow all company policies, safety standards, and procedures.

  • Maintain necessary tools and equipment for repair and service work.

  • Keep the company vehicle clean and organized, and report any issues promptly.

  • Work closely with supervisors, sales teams, and other technicians to meet deadlines and improve processes.

  • Train and assist other employees as required.

  • Represent the company positively in all interactions.

  • Maintain certifications, develop expertise in assigned equipment, and use time effectively.

  • Be willing to work overtime, travel, and perform manual labor, including heavy lifting and operating power equipment.

  • Perform other tasks and projects assigned by Service Management.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years breakdown experience or comparable service experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Certification in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems is a plus.
  • Prior experience in the dock and door industry or a related field.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other safety standards applicable to commercial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety gear.
  • Possess sound working knowledge of basic D/C electricity, basic A/C electricity.
  • Possess sound welding skills with a primary focus on arc as well as torch skills.
  • Possess sound working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs) and work in various conditions, including outdoor and high-elevation environments.
  • Comfortable working in tight spaces and on ladders or lifts.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites within the service region.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime or on-call shifts.
