Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for providing accurate processing, purchasing, ordering and managing inventory of supplies and medications.  The position works under the direct legal supervision of a registered pharmacist.  The position is directly involved in all aspects of the department s operations, including medication and supply ordering, processing and distribution; floor stock procedures; controlled substance handling; data collection; billing; reporting; and performance improvement processes.  The position must work with organization and accuracy to perform all duties, as assigned. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Manages inventory. Ensures continuous supplies are maintained with little or no interruption.  Assists in the training of technicians in inventory practices (pharmacy, nursing unit and Pyxis).   Informs director when staff is not following appropriate inventory practices.
  2. Pharmaceutical Purchasing and Contract Analysis.
  3. Assists the Pharmacy Director by supplying any data needed to ensure accurate monthly/yearly financial statements and reports.
  4. Accurate and timely billing entry.
  5. Coordinates record maintenance and storage.
  6. Performs clerical duties such as assisting with preparation and distribution of materials for pharmacy staff, data collection and record keeping for departmental activity and productivity and other projects to support departmental activities.
  7. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Degree, GED or equivalent.
  • Certified National Pharmacy Technician and registered with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Must have pharmacy experience, hospital experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience in automated dispensing, Pyxis preferably.
  • Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic functions.
  • Above average communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet strict deadlines and accurately perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient with computers.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
