Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for performing technical and clerical duties essential for the efficient operation of the pharmacy department as well as preparing chemotherapy medication. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Communicates with pharmacists, physicians, nursing staff, and other pharmacy technicians to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care.
  2. Appropriately initiates billing functions such as debiting and crediting.
  3. Provides guidance and training to new pharmacy staff as needed.
  4. Performs nursing unit and medication storage audits assigned by pharmacy supervisor.
  5. Fills and delivers chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications in a timely and efficient manner. Prepares sterile products following all necessary regulations and precautions including USP 797.
  6. Manages department and unit inventory by anticipating medication needs, placing medication orders and receiving medications into inventory, and managing outdated medications.
  7. Pyxis activities include restocking, new loads, expiration date checking, inventory management, and troubleshooting as required. Repackages pharmaceuticals as needed. Fills and delivers medication and physician orders in a timely and efficent manner.
  8. Follows all regulations and policies and procedures relating to USP 797 for sterile compounding and USP 800 hazardous drug handling.
  9. Performs IV room and hood cleaning according to policy.
  10. Maintains annual competency for aseptic technique and handling of hazardous drugs.
  11. Performs additional duties as required by the pharmacy director and pharmacy supervisor.
  12. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Certification as a National or State of Ohio Pharmacy Technician through the National Healthcareer Association and/or the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Typing, interpersonal skills, and some computer experience preferred.

 

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
