Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Radiology Technology Assistant is responsible for assisting members of the patient care team and providing a broad range of health care services such as: patient check-in, exam review, preparation for the visit, patient education, assistance with exams and procedures, and patient transporting and is trained to use a wide variety of radiographic equipment, computers, and software. The Radiology Technology Assistant may be assigned to work in a variety of imaging sections, assist multiple radiology modalities and/or clinical services per operational needs at the various locations of Memorial Health Systems. The Radiology Technology Assistant will assist with exams on adults, geriatric patients, adolescents, and pediatric age groups and performs patient assessment within the scope of practice. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  1. Assists Tech’s with imaging exams, performs clerical duties including record keeping, and maintains high quality services.
  2. Communicates effectively with patients/families and all care providers.
  3. Adheres to established section and organizational protocols, QA guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  4. Assist with coordinating work assignments to ensure a smooth workflow.
  5. Sets up the imaging room to coincide with the examination being performed to include the use of proper isolations precautions when needed.
  6. Provide quality customer service, explains all studies to patient in a clear manner, and provide information and resources to patient and family.
  7. Safely transfers patient to and from carts, beds and wheelchairs utilizing proper body mechanics and lifting devices as available and as needed.
  8. Exhibits caring attitude when relating to patients.
  9. Engages in professional and ethical conduct.
  10. Maintains a clean, orderly, well-stocked room.
  11. Accurately records patient exams and follow proper billing procedures.
  12. Rotate within departments and clinics for proper coverage.
  13. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be a second year student in an approved Radiologic Technology program; or completed a program and awaiting licensure for up to 6 month required. 
  • BLS Certification required, will obtain during orientation if needed.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Basic knowledge of sterile techniques, universal precautions, OSHA standards and personal radiation protection practices preferred.
  • Strong customer service and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals and external vendors.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
