Position Overview

The Prep Cook position at Denver Christian Schools is responsible for the preparation, setup, teardown, and cleanup of food service activities. This includes school lunch, the coffee bar, and various catering events. The Prep Cook reports to the Executive Chef.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be professing Christians, actively involved in a local Christian church, and fully supportive of the school’s statement of faith.
  • Knowledge of quantity food service, food preparation methods and operation of food service equipment
  • Ability to accept and interpret direction given from Food Service Manager, Food Service consulting team, and school administrators
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, suppliers, school staff and students and the general public
  • Ability to keep accurate records, estimate quantities of food needed, prep proper amounts, and maintain inventory controls
  • Must be in good health, physically able to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, stand and reach
  • Must be certified by the ServeSafe Certification Program or equivalent within three months of hire and must maintain such certification throughout employment with the school
  • Preferred one to three years of quantity food preparation and service with a food service program in the educational field or similar, or any combination of training and experience which provides a demonstrated potential for performing the required duties
     

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • During each full instructional day, complete preparation of food and prepare dining hall serving areas, timely serve all necessary students, staff, and faculty, and thoroughly clean dining hall and kitchen
  • Ensure that coffee bar has all necessary prepped food each day and assist with set up, tear down, and clean up
  • Assist with food prep, set up and tear down, and clean up and potential serving at various catering events on campus 
  • Follow established health, safety, and sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance
  • Properly and safely operate all equipment needed in preparation of food
  • Assist in food receiving, stocking, and rotating; and help keep accurate inventory of products in house
  • Daily maintain food service facilities, equipment, and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition; including trays, pots and pans, and any items used during the day
  • Assist in tracking food usage and waste
