Composting Internships
The campus dining hall has been composting food prep scraps in the Campus Garden compost since Fall 2024. With dining hall staff, CES, and the Student Composting Club, the person in this position will be responsible for the collection and transport of compostable materials to the Campus Garden. This person in this position will also assist with the documentation of the current food waste in the dining hall, with a particular focus on documenting baseline post-consumer waste. They will also
Composting Job Responsibilities:
- Collect compostable materials 2-5 times a week from dining hall kitchen.
- Conduct at least two waste audits during peak dining hours to measure food waste in the dining hall.
- Create educational materials to reduce food waste in the dining hall.
- Assist with the documentation of food production and estimates of edible food waste on campus from dining hall and catering.
- Explore opportunities to streamline and innovate composting collection.
- Attend compost club meetings and work days.
