Washington College is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Herbalist intern to join our campus garden team. The ideal candidate will research and share traditional and indigenous uses of plants, maintain the herb spiral, produce educational programs, and facilitate annual community traditions through the herb spiral, earth oven, and poetry garden.
Research and Documentation:
- Conduct thorough research on traditional and indigenous uses of local and cultivated plants.
- Document findings and create informative web materials for educational purposes.
Herb Spiral:
- Oversee the care and upkeep of the herb spiral, ensuring optimal health of plants following permaculture methodologies.
- Implement regenerative gardening practices and promote biodiversity within the garden.
Educational Programming:
- Develop and lead workshops and educational programs focused on herbalism, plant identification, and regenerative living.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate herbal education into relevant curricula.
Community Engagement:
- Organize and facilitate seasonal community events, utilizing the herb spiral and earth oven to promote local food culture and sustainability to alumni and community members.
- Foster community involvement through hands-on activities, such as herb harvesting, herbal product design, and cooking demonstrations.
Outreach and Communication:
- Engage with students, faculty, and community members to promote awareness of the benefits and uses of herbs.
- Use social media and other communication channels to share educational content and event announcements.
