Description

The Center for Environment and Society (CES) seeks an intern to assist CES staff and other community organizations with various projects and events. The intern will report to Laura Chamberlin, Associate Director of Civic Engagement. Responsibilities will vary will depend on the students skills and interests. Management of the campus bike share program will be a key component of the  Intern will work approximately 10 hrs/week for 8-12 weeks. Activities may include:  

  • Organize and repair bikes for student-based campus bike share program
  • Research and document current community activities in food recovery, food production, food distribution, and resolving access to food for underserved communities. Research should be both local and regional.
  • Create educational and communication products for the Chestertown Environmental Committee on a variety of topics including reusable bags, composting, stormwater management, and other topics.
  • Support the creation of a 'Slice of Life' plots or mini-urban meadows in residential and commercial spaces in Chestertown.
  • Support Chestertown's alternative recycling program at Saturday’s Farmer’s Market.
  • Enhance the Chestertown Environmental Committee’s social media presence by creating and posting content for digital marketing channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, website).

The intern will have the chance to engage with other projects happening at the Center as needed and based on interest. Qualifications

  • Work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Experience or strong desire to acquire experience repairing and maintaining bikes.
  • Passionate about informal education, community engagement, sustainability, and/or other environmental issues.
  • Graphic design, ArcGIS Online, and/or social media skills preferred, but not required.
  • Driver’s license and ability to become an approved Washington College driver is preferred, but not required.
  • Intern will work at Semans-Griswold Environmental Hall and Campus Garden but there will also be occasional meetings in other locations in Chestertown or remote working.

Additional Info

  • Intern will be paid $15/hour with approximately 10 hours per week. Schedule is flexible based on student availability.
  • This internship is sponsored by the Center for Environment and Society and will have additional interaction and supervision from members of the Chestertown Environmental Committee.
