POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The archery instructor at the Dunigan YMCA provides instruction and encouragement and supervises activities related to athletic development and archery training in correct techniques, archery knowledge, setting other skills, and day-to-day interaction with parents for children ages 8-17 with various backgrounds and abilities. The archery instructor at the Dunigan YMCA serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure participants and staff know and follow Archery's safety protocols and educational procedures.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Complete required abuse risk management training.
  • Adhere to the procedures associated with managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Teach archery through fun and effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each team member.  The Y for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Welcome each child and their parents at the start of each class.
  • Be aware that each child’s physical and emotional maturity, personality, background, and motivation differ.
  • Supervise the players before, during, and after practices and games.  
  • To provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, giving each child an equal opportunity to participate.  
  • Communicate any questions or concerns with the Sports Coordinator or the Sports Director.  
  • To serve as a positive role model to the players, parents, and fellow coaches by following all rules, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and coaching consistency with the Y.  
  • Assist in the management, maintenance and care of the physical facilities and all equipment in the archery program area.  
  • Conduct routine checks of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.  
     

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here represent those that a sports coach must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform basic functions.
  • Ability to lead sports practices.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading sports practices, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogen training is required within 60 days of employment.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training is required before/on the first workday.
