The Head Coach is a disciplined and motivated individual who provides guidance to the student athletes and administrative assistance to the Esports Director with an emphasis on recruitment. Responsible for the day-to-day team operations. Will establish a strong sense of team identity and values across all game titles. Responsible for assisting with execution of summer camp/combine experiences to develop proactive recruiting and fostering a healthy local community of gamers. This is a part-time, stipend position, paid over six months—three in the fall and three in the spring. This position may be conducted fully online, hybrid, or in-person.

Essential Job Functions

Grow and develop a successful esports program:

  1. Conduct recruitment activities in accordance with NACE and any Esports governing body rules and regulations.
  2. Develop and execute recruiting strategies with the Esports Director to ensure program stability and growth.
  3. Set and meet monthly recruitment goals for Varsity and Junior Varsity League of Legends and other Esports titles as assigned.
  4. Monitor the academic progress of student athletes to ensure students meet eligibility and graduation standards.
  5. Establish an effective schedule for practices and games (league & tournament schedule coordination).
  6. Maintain the Esports facility, equipment, and other assets.
  7. Assist Esports Director with fund-raising activities for the esports program.
  8. Assist Esports Director with summer camps for prospective esport student-athletes.
  9. Keep current of rolling updates and patches as metagame evolves.
  10. Promote attendance at esports events by providing information for students, faculty, staff and the public.
  11. Perform other athletic administrative duties as assigned.
  12. Maintain student confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Overall primary supervision of League of Legends teams, occasional assistance of other teams at Grand View University. Will include supervision of student athletes.

Working Conditions:

In the event of working on-site, some work is performed in a normal office setting.  Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.  During course of day, can interact with students, faculty, and staff by computer, phone, or in person.  Must be able to spend extended periods of time for practices and competitions and be able to travel as job demands. Nights and weekends will be a part of this position due to competition schedule and traveling.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills required.
  3. Successful recruiting and coaching experience at the high school or college level preferred.
  4. Metagame knowledge of relevant Esports titles required.
  5. Current player ranking in relevant Esports titles preferred.
  6. Knowledge of relevant strategies, play patterns, and dynamics of competitive play preferred.
  7. Ability to interact with students, parents, admission staff, and the public in a positive way.
