POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Development Manager develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA School Age and Summer Camp Programs. Provides leadership for the staff while working year-round to help the department meet its program goals. This position oversees and maintains assigned locations which includes traveling to and from those designed sites on a regular basis. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Responsible for goal setting in order to meet performance objectives for both School Age Care and Summer Camp. 

  1. Attends Youth Development Leadership meetings as required. 

  1. Responsible for managing the operations through directing, coordinating, and evaluating the programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. 

  1. Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directing personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.  

  1. Collaborates with other Managers to develop program wide monthly lesson plans in a timely manner ensuring that plans are culturally relevant, developmentally appropraite and consistent with YMCA values. 

  1. Ensures that program fees are collected for their assigned sites.  

  1. Supervision of assigned staff in relation to performance, discipline, and evaluations.  

  1. Develops teamwork among staff and engages staff in their work at the Y. 

  1. Maintains open, positive communications and interactions between children, parents/caregivers, staff and administrative staff. Addresses all staff and parent issues or concerns in a professional and timely manner. 

  1. Assures compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and accreditation organizations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. 

  1. Ensures that upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living through weekly, written site evaluations. 

  1. Develops a professional working relationship and understands the school chain of command for each assigned site.  

  1. Champions staff by encouraging participation in our annual fund-raising campaign and participates in committees as assigned as well as events within their assigned site as directed  

  1. Maintains proper records/department files. 

  1. Organizes and participates in special events for parents as directed.  

  1. Assists in the facilitation of monthly Team Leader and quarterly Staff meetings. 

  1. Performs School Age Care Environment Rating and Site Risk Assessments at sites of responsibility. 

  1. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information including gathering pictures of programs and creating a rich monthly newsletter for each school district; showcasing the great things happening at the programs. 

  1. Submits for approval to the Senior Director supply purchases for their assigned programs.  

  1. Tracks all staff’s training courses to ensure that their assigned staff have completed all required training.  

  1. Ensures that all sites have the required paperwork (Staff Checklist, CARIs, CHRIs, Children’s Checklist, Fire/Security logs, license, insurance) posted or available on the site Google Drive. 

  1. Works in conjunction with the Financial Services Coordinator in relation to program subsidies  

  1. Works with the Site Coordinator and Parents/Caregivers to develop strategies for student behavioral challenges.  

  1. Reviews Paycom of assigned staff weekly and approves timecards bi-weekly in a timely manner.   

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent required.  

  1. Two years related experience working with children preferred i.e. a school age program and/or camp 

  1. Minimum age requirement of 21 years of age 

  1. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens. 

  1. Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards such as fingerprinting within 30 days of hire and completion of YMCA program specific certifications within 60 days of hire 

  1. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of  
    the community.

  1. Bi-lingual is preferred but not required
