Kitchen - Custodian

Imagine a position that combines the duties of the school kitchen along with light custodian duties! This person preps and serves breakfast, serves lunch that is catered from the public school, washes dishes after meals. Our students eat family style in the classroom so everything is put in bowls and sent to the classroom where teaching staff serves it to the kids.

Custodial work includes mopping, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms and vehicles, etc. This person also does some shopping, light shoveling, and playground monitoring. 

You will be the one-person show in our kitchen! Must be reliable.

Duties include:

• Adhere to all principles of confidentiality.
• Clean/organize refrigerator, freezers, pantry, and cabinets.
• Compile list of groceries and supplies needed for the week..
• Shop/order/put away for groceries and supplies
• Prep a simple breakfast. Breakfast is sent to the classrooms where teaching staff serve it to their students. Wash and put away dishes after breakfast.
• Dish up lunch catered from Mandan Public Schools. Our classrooms eat family style, so the food is separated into bowls and put on carts that goes to each classroom. Wash and put away dishes after lunch.
• Change furnace filters in gym, staff work room and basement.
• Empty dehumidifiers in the basement.
• Record refrigerator and freezer temps daily.
• Keep our building looking good! Clean hallways, gym, bathrooms, meeting rooms, and main office.
• Empty trash in bathrooms, gym and kitchen.
• Clean Head Start vehicles (buses, car, truck).
• Submit mileage for all vehicles.
• Sweep steps and sidewalks.
• Shovel (less than 2" of snow) and de-ice when necessary.
• Wash, dry, and put away dishrags daily.
• Perform playground check every morning before scheduled classroom outside time.

Employee Cost for Insurance

• Must have a valid driver's license
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Food service or kitchen experience preferred. Our Head Start site serves 77 kids plus 14 classroom staff.
• Must follow CACFP requirements.
• Must start early enough to prep and serve breakfast. This person will start between 6 and 7 AM. Will discuss schedule during the interview.
• 40 hours per week from mid-August to mid-May. If desired, summer hours may be available through HIT, Inc.
• Effectively speak, read, and understand English.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• Pay is $19.87/hour.
