Position Summary

The Bartender is responsible for providing warm, attentive, and knowledgeable service to all guests while ensuring that every beverage and interaction reflects The Standard’s high standards of quality and hospitality. This role requires a strong understanding of classic and contemporary cocktails, product knowledge, and the ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional and consistent service to all guests in a professional, friendly, and engaging manner.

  • Prepare and serve beverages, cocktails, and menu items according to established recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards.

  • Maintain cleanliness and design aesthetics of all bar areas, including the bar top, back bar, service wells, shelving, and glassware.

  • Ensure all mise en place is complete before each shift, including checking fruits, garnishes, juices, syrups, and specialty cocktail ingredients for freshness.

  • Conduct daily inventory and submit requisition sheets to management for restocking; maintain proper par levels for all products.

  • Possess expert knowledge of The Standard’s beverage program, including cocktails, spirits, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic offerings.

  • Be able to articulate detailed information about menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods using proper terminology.

  • Accurately record guest orders in MICROS (POS system) and process all payment methods with care and accuracy.

  • Deliver prompt, efficient, and uniform service both directly to guests at the bar and through the service bar for servers.

  • Follow all state and company guidelines regarding responsible alcohol service and safe food handling.

  • Complete all pre-shift, post-shift, and side work duties as assigned by management.

  • Maintain full compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.

  • Support the team and assist in other bar or service areas as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of bartending experience in a high-volume, upscale bar, restaurant, or hotel environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of cocktail preparation, mixology techniques, spirits, beer, and wine.

  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and guest service skills.

  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.

  • A passion for hospitality and teamwork; a proactive and positive attitude is essential.

  • Must hold (or be able to obtain) valid state certifications for safe alcohol service and food handling.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work for up to 8 hours or more per shift.

  • Regular bending, kneeling, lifting, and reaching required.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

  • Frequent use of hands to grasp, handle, or operate bar tools and equipment.

  • Comfortable working in confined or high-energy environments with varying lighting and temperature conditions.
