Training Specialist - Advocate Program

Crisis Services is looking to add a Training Specialist to our Advocate Department’s team.  We are seeking professionals with public health, human services, social work, or education degrees who are interested in supporting our mission to provide support to anyone in need.

About this opportunity:

 

The Advocate Department of Crisis Services is Erie County’s Rape Crisis Center and a licensed Non-Residential Domestic Violence Service Provider in New York State. The Department provides comprehensive victim services to individuals who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, family violence and/or elder abuse. The Training Specialist is responsible for delivering Hospital Advocate training for staff, volunteers and interns. This includes the orientation and onboarding of new department staff and the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteer Hospital Advocates and hospital interns. This position also conducts community outreach and education related to Advocate Department services and volunteer and intern recruitment.

 

Hospital On Call: this position includes scheduled on-call responsibilities outside of the regularly scheduled shift covering the Department’s 24/7 Hospital Response Advocacy services. If activated, they may be required to respond to local county emergency rooms to provide crisis intervention and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, family violence and/or elder abuse and/or provide support to Volunteers who are on call for the Hospital Response Program.

 

 

Job Type: 

 

  • Full Time, 40 hours/week

 

Pay: 

 

  • $21.61 - $25.30 per hour

 

Schedule: 

 

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
  • Some evening and/or weekend hours, as needed, during training cohorts and community outreach and education events.
  • Required on-call responsibilities.

 

 

Work Setting:

 

  • Onsite at Crisis Services, 100 River Rock Road, Suite 300, Buffalo, NY

 

 

What you will bring: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Mental Health, Education, Health Promotion, or related Human Service field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year’s relevant work experience in volunteer training, community education, and/or public speaking required. 
  • Experience supervising volunteers and/or interns required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience in the field of domestic violence and/or sexual assault strongly preferred OR Master’s degree in related field and 6 months relevant work experience staff training, community education, and/or public speaking and volunteer supervision.
  • Experience working with college-aged populations preferred.
  • Capable of working with and mobilizing a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to relate to and engage diverse populations in a variety of settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills for facilitation and one-on-one guidance spaces.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to set goals and adhere to timelines for program implementation; must be able work independently, take initiative, and be self-motivated. 
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Canva, and Google Applications.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record with access to reliable a vehicle.
