We are seeking a highly experienced Motor Design Engineer with at least 10 years of hands-on expertise in electric motor development, testing, and manufacturing. This role involves leading product development efforts, optimizing EC and PSC motor performance, and collaborating with global manufacturing partners. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in electromagnetics, component design, and regulatory compliance, along with proficiency in engineering tools and software. Excellent communication skills and the ability to support customer-facing technical discussions are essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES
New Product Introduction / Project Engineering – 85%
- Lead engineering execution for new and existing motor platforms, ensuring alignment with performance, cost, and regulatory targets.
- Own technical planning, design, prototyping, testing, and validation phases of product development.
- Apply rigorous stress-driven reliability testing to identify and mitigate potential failure modes before launch.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for internal teams and customers, resolving complex challenges and ensuring clarity.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Cost (DFC), and risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop and manage 3D models, drawings, specifications, test procedures, and qualification plans.
- Coordinate prototype testing and regulatory submissions (UL507, UL1004, etc.), review and approve PPAP documentation, and ensure compliance with UL and other standards.
- Collaborate with offshore manufacturing partners to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
- Design and execute simulations using tools such as ANSYS, ensuring hands-on engagement with software tools.
Technical Leadership – 15%
- Act as a subject matter expert in motor design and reliability, guiding teams through technical challenges.
- Mentor engineers and testing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Champion best practices in documentation, testing, and design validation.
- Build and maintain strategic technical partnerships, including suppliers beyond the supply chain scope.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & SKILLS
- 4-Year degree focused on Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in electric motor design, manufacturing, and testing.
- Proven success leading product development from concept to launch.
- Expertise in EC and PSC motors, including performance analysis and troubleshooting.
- Strong foundation in electromagnetics, magnets, and dynamic balancing (ISO 1940).
- Hands-on experience with motor testing tools (e.g., multimeters, dynamometers, airflow chambers).
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (UL, CSA, ISO, RoHS, REACH, Prop65); own and manage UL relationship for motor products.
- Experience collaborating with Asian manufacturing partners (Vietnam/China preferred).
- Skilled in evaluating component designs (bearings, shafts, housing) for reliability and fit.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex motor issues, including noise, vibration, and performance.
- Oversee integration and coordination of hardware, firmware, and software components for motor products.
- Proficient in SolidWorks, ANSYS/MAXWELL, PLM systems, GD&T; exposure to CFD, FEA, and mold flow analysis.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and motor-integrated systems (fans, pumps, blowers).
- Strong communication skills for customer-facing technical discussions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. and work at a desk for extended periods.
- Domestic and international travel required.
