PTC has 11 plants in PA, OH, IN, IL and MO; and its products are used globally, in products made by its customers such as Caterpillar, John Deere, Jeep, and Honda.

Job Summary: 

Responsible for determining the validity of quality functions and/or processes throughout the plant.  Maintains the plant Quality Program and accompanying documentation to appropriate standards and corporate guidelines by supervising and directing subordinate activity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Primary responsibility for reviewing and auditing operating procedures for adherence to PTC Steel, Chicago Heights Plant procedures and the Corporate Quality Manual.

Analyzes rejects by defect codes and departments.  Provides reports to management for appropriate corrective measures.

Maintains ASNT Level 1 certification in Ultrasonic and Electromagnetic methods.

Provides ASNT Level 1 services to the Chicago Heights plant and other PTCSteel DOM facilities.

Assists all departments in quality planning and implementation of quality related procedures.

Answers technical and personnel questions raised by subordinates and directs quality training for the plant as required.

Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.

Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.

Maintains affiliations with appropriate technical and/or professional organizations or associations.  Including but not limited to ASTM, and ASNT.

Primary responsibility for assisting outside auditors, inspectors, suppliers, and customers with respect to quality, specifications, audits and customer surveillance visits.

Performs other duties as required.

Duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements: 

Four-year college degree or equivalent to college degree with 3- 5 years of experience in quality administration.

Number of Direct Reports:  1-2                             

Job Titles of Direct Reports:  Quality Analyst, Quality Technician and/or Technical Assistant

Skills and Abilities: 

Supervisory Responsibilities:   Directly supervises 1-2 employees in the Quality Assurance Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualification Requirements:

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, and/or public groups.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Must be computer literate and able to work with programs such as WordPerfect, Excel, etc., and be able to learn and use HP programs such as e-mail, established programs, etc.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: 

Must possess a valid driver’s license for business travel, such as, customer visits, to attend required meeting, seminars, etc.  Must be ASNT certified as Level 1 Examiner in at least the Ultrasonic method or readily trainable to achieve this certification.
