Customer Service Representative- Billing

Job Summary 

The Billing Customer Service Representative (BCSR) is responsible for taking incoming patient calls concerning the patients’ outstanding balances.  The BCSR will handle patient balance related items including collection of payment. 

Qualifications / Requirements 

• 1-2 years’ experience in Medical Billing 

• 1-2 years’ experience in patient collections 

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written 

• Problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities 

• CPT and ICD10 coding experience required 

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, excel and outlook 

• High School diploma or equivalent 

• Must have a secure area in home that is away from family/friends that restricts access to HIPAA related items 

Essential Functions 

• Serve as the initial point of contact for customer service inquiries, calls and issues 

• Responsible for collection of patient outstanding balances 

• Responsible for setting up and following up on any delinquent payment plan arrangements 

• Will review and handle all Patient Statement returned mail  

• Updating patient insurance and preparing claim for submission 

• Maintains, reviews and corrects any Statement Errors on a weekly basis 

• Updates patient accounts for Sliding Fee Schedule 

• Maintains strict confidentiality 

• Monitors and reports any patient balance related issues to the Revenue Cycle Manager 

• Recommends and forwards any uncollectible patient balances accounts to Revenue Cycle Manager for review 

• Reviews patient balance credits and refers them to Revenue Cycle Manager for refund review 

• Runs patients through Coverage Detector for possible other insurance 

• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills 

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

Physical Requirements 

• Frequently sitting at a desk for office work.  

• Occasional driving of automobiles for outside meetings or trainings.  

• Continuous use of corrected vision, depth perception, wide field of vision, and color. Also, the job will demand continuous use of auditory senses.  

• Duties require attention to detail, alertness, problem-solving, tolerance to stress, and exercising sound judgement.  

• This employee may frequently lift and/or move items over 30 pounds.  

• Must be able to lift, carry and handle equipment, supplies, and other work site materials according to position requirements.
