- Maintain inventory of and schedule/oversee maintenance and repairs to division small tools and specialty (non-fleet) equipment.
- Maintain a commercial pesticide license, Categories 24 (Ornamental & Turf), 27 (ROW)
- Perform or oversee application of pesticides and other chemicals by division staff or outside contractors, as appropriate, in accordance with mandated health and safety and applicable regulations and division protocols.
- Maintain chemical inventory and application records, in accordance with applicable regulations and division protocols.
- Ensures daily records of staff activities are recorded in Cartegraph.
- Responds to public requests, issues, and complaints in a courteous, prompt manner, and reports promptly on such interactions to division and department managers.
- Performs and trains/supervises division crew to perform all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality.
- Immediately report any incidents with residents or staff to division manager and other department leaders, as necessary.

Landscape Installation/Maintenance
- Inspect and monitor landscape installation and maintenance work being performed through contracts with private landscaping firms; ensure work is performed in accordance with contractual agreements and City standards.
- Regularly monitor landscaped areas of city buildings and parks for areas needing renovation, mulching, new plants or that display issues related to drainage, plant health, pests, weeds, or other issues requiring attention by a contractor or in-house staff; assess needs and review potential solutions with division manager.
- Coordinate planning for in-house landscape installation projects to include assisting with planning, procurement and installation of plant material, in accordance with industry standards and city sustainable landscaping goals.
- Coordinate and supervise division staff in performing non-contracted landscape installation and maintenance work by planning and implementing crew assignments; directly assist staff in troubleshooting and performing more complex work.
- Perform regular checks of city irrigation systems, timing mechanism adjustment, winterizing and spring start-up system maintenance, and basic irrigation repairs; alerts division manager when advanced repairs are needed by a third-party contractor.
- Provides training and leadership to division crew members in performing landscape, tree, or vegetation maintenance using proper methods, procedures, and techniques, and as directed by division manager.
- Utilizes and trains/supervises division staff in the safe operation of division specialty equipment such as pruning tools, mowers, hedge trimmers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, pole saws, trailers, tractors, mini-excavators, bucket trucks, and other vehicles and equipment.
Tree Care
- Oversee staff and tree contractors performing tree care on city properties/ROW areas, to include regular inspections for hazardous trees, monitoring trees of concern, and notifying division manager when issues are noted that require an arborist assessment.
- Oversee and direct appropriate pruning and removal of trees, including safe operation of hydraulic lift bucket truck, as necessary, in ROW by division staff or contractors, as appropriate.
- Assess, plan, conduct and lead division staff in safe traffic control when working in traffic areas, including installing cones/barricades prior to work performance; directing and controlling traffic around work sites.
Invasive Species Management and Native Plant Restoration
- Implement invasive species management plan for city parks, ROW, and natural areas including a 15-acre old-growth forest.
- Recognize target invasive plant infestations and valuable native plants to be protected during work.
- Apply mechanical, chemical, and biological control methods as appropriate; monitor site conditions post-treatment and adapt management approaches based on results.
- Oversee the installation of native plantings and habitat restoration projects.
- Work with community groups and volunteers to support planting days, educational efforts, and stewardship initiatives.
Downtown Special Services District/City Hall Complex/Rail Trail
- Coordinate staff to perform daily inspection/maintenance to blow/tidy landscapes, ensure weeds and litter are removed, and to inspect for and address any issues needing immediate attention.
Green Infrastructure Practice Maintenance
- Oversee division staff or contractor in periodic native vegetation maintenance in city green infrastructure practices.
