Job Description & Expectations

Summary:

Welds primarily aluminum and steel component parts to comply with specifications as listed in standard prints, custom blue prints, job travelers, or other work instructions. Does so in a timely and effective manner using primarily M.I.G. welding equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following:

  • Reviews part prints and quantity requirements and secures appropriate materials, tooling and equipment to produce quality parts in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes fixtures, jigs, and tools to secure component parts safely and correctly for fabrication.
  • Tack welds pieces as necessary, then welds complete and/or weld parts complete directly, always operating equipment safely and per manufacturers and Autogate’s requirements or specifications.
  • Break all sharp edges and remove weld spatter. Cleans or degreases parts if required.
  • Records time, quantities, and materials accurately on paperwork and in production software system.
  • Inspects parts as required to assure quality product is being produced.
  • Immediately notifies supervisor if component parts or parts being made are nonconforming or there is an issue making quality product.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Work Environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA’s):
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or three (3) to six (6) months related experience and/or training in similar environment. Two (2) years of the following: Welding experience. Manufacturing experience a plus, able to read weld symbols, blue prints proficiently. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to read tape measure to 32nds of an inch. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The person performing this job is required to wear safety glasses with side shields at any time that they are performing any duties in the production area of the shop. While welding, the employees is required to wear safety shoes and a welding helmet when welding.
