Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Physician Assistant - Neonatology to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. Harlem Hospital is a 268-bed hospital that provides a broad array of preventive, primary and acute care services including general medicine and medical subspecialties, general surgery and surgical subspecialties, infectious diseases, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and neonatology, critical care, imaging, radiology and nuclear medicine, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry and substance abuse services, dental and oral surgery, physical, speech and occupational therapies. They are an Area-Wide Burn Center and Level II Trauma Center, with Centers of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery, Breast Imaging and Sexual Assault Forensics, a designated Stroke and AIDS Center, and World Health Organization’s UNICEF Designated Baby Friendly.  The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons to maintain its high healthcare delivery standards.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem is a Level III NICU with a 15-bed unit and serves newborns from 22 weeks and onwards. Harlem Hospital's NICU can provide support with bubble CPAP, conventional ventilator and high frequency oscillator, and has availability of multiple pediatric subspecialties including cardiology, surgery, infectious disease, ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, genetics, hematology and endocrinology.

Opportunity Details:
- Provides care to newborn in well baby nursery, and neonatal ICU.
- Provides neonatal consult to mother with high-risk pregnancy in the delivery room.
- Perform therapeutic procedures, including insertion of intravenous lines and central lines (umbilical venous and atrial line, peripheral insertion of central catheter), chest tube insertion, intubation and management of ventilator, lumbar puncture, nasogastric and urinary catheterization.
- Re-evaluates patients' health status at protocol prescribed intervals; prescribes treatment drugs on the basis of standing orders, orders required lab tests, monitors result, discusses with the physicians all abnormal findings and lab results, initiates and/or assist in carrying out physician-prescribed interventions, reports and documents all adverse experiences (toxicities, hospitalizations, etc.) according to established procedure.
- Call model is two persons in-house including an Attending 24/7 on site.
- Neonatal team provides services in NICU and newborn nursery and attend high risk deliveries.Â
- Neonatal team supervises and trains pediatric residents rotating through NICU and nursery and participate in QI projects and Vermont Oxford network.
- 40 hours per week mostly nights and weekends and will be working alongside Neonatal Attending.
- Night 7:30pm - 8:00am / Weekend is 24 hours 8:00am - 8:00am.
