- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience required.
- Formal theological training or experience in working in a church-related organization is preferred.
- Must possess exceptional writing, copy-editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading communications strategy and teams in a multi-layered organization.
- Excellent knowledge of current communications practices.
- Proven experience in nonprofit management responsibilities, including staff supervision, volunteer engagement, financial oversight, maintaining effective administrative systems, and aligning diverse teams with organizational vision.
- Passion for communicating an organization’s mission and impact through creative and compelling storytelling.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing change and developing new methods to respond to a changing market and culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Must maintain strong confidentiality.
- Committed to fostering an inclusive environment that respects and values diverse perspectives.
- Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Web Conferencing, and other platforms related to the communications field.
- Possess the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects in a complex, fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Willingness to build an understanding of The United Methodist Church beliefs, practices, structure and polity.
Additional Considerations:
- Hybrid schedule, with the expectation of in-office presence on designated days.
- Occasional travel expected within the Conference area and greater connection.
