SUMMARY
Sets up dies on the anvil and ram of a Steam Drop Hammer. Places hot metal on bottom dies, uses treadles to release clutches to permit a ram with top dies to strike metal. Treadle operated by foot, which controls the number of blows needed to shape metal and also control the amount of weight of blows to be struck. Maneuvers forging with tongs until desired size is attained; shape and contour of forging controlled by impression in dies. Keeps the dies in alignment and adjusts the machine for correct operation. Watches for worn or broken spots and/or other conditions in the forging of dies and/or hit trimmer which would produce imperfect forgings. Supervises operation of the forging furnace and directs the activity of the hammer helpers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates and maintains hammers.
- Sets up and verifies all settings for forging of dies per work order.
- Checks and verifies product routing standards.
- Knowledge of serialization and defect identification.
- Blueprint reading.
- All other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 2 to 4 forge helpers in the forging of dies. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the procedures set for the by the Forge Supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous manufacturing preferred, previous forging experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Basic math required.
- Mechanical aptitude desired.
- Basic computer skills desired.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
