TITLE: Knowledge Management Manager (KMM)

REPORTS TO: Chief Practice Management Officer (Lee Watts)

HYBRID: Open to hybrid work arrangement with KMM reporting in person at one of the Firm’s office locations

SALARY RANGE: $100K+ depending on experience


Job Description
The Knowledge Management Manager is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing knowledge management systems, processes, and practices that support the efficient capture, organization, and sharing of information across the firm. This role is crucial in ensuring that legal knowledge, precedents, and best practices are accessible, up-to-date, and usable by all stakeholders to improve client service, operational efficiency, and overall firm performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with senior leadership to define the firm’s knowledge management strategy in alignment with business objectives.
2. Identify and prioritize knowledge management needs within the firm, working with leadership and practice groups.
3. Continuously assess and improve KM processes to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
4. Oversee the creation, organization, and maintenance of a centralized knowledge repository, including legal documents, templates, precedents, research, and practice notes.
5. Ensure that all knowledge is easily accessible, accurately categorized, and up to date.
6. Promote and manage the use of collaborative tools for knowledge sharing and document management.
7. Act as a liaison between attorneys, practice groups, and support teams to ensure alignment with knowledge management initiatives.
8. Foster a culture of knowledge sharing through regular interactions with attorneys and staff, promoting engagement with KM systems and resources.
9. Organize knowledge-sharing sessions, including training, webinars, and internal workshops, to educate attorneys on KM best practices and tools.
10. Serve as the central point of contact for all KM-related inquiries and assist with knowledge sharing across practice areas.
11. Manage and optimize the firm’s knowledge management systems and platforms, including document management software, intranet, and collaboration tools.
12. Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in legal KM and evaluate their applicability to the firm.
13. Provide training and support to users of KM systems and tools.
14. Track and report on the effectiveness of knowledge management initiatives, including usage, feedback, and overall impact on the firm’s operations.
15. Provide regular reports and recommendations to senior leadership on KM performance and opportunities for improvement.
16. Manage relationships with external vendors providing KM tools, services, or content, and assist leadership in negotiations and contract management.
17. Identify and implement legal technologies and KM tools, such as document automation, AI-driven legal research, and knowledge-sharing platforms, to improve productivity and reduce inefficiencies.
18. Manage research-related expenses, recommend new products to enhance KM capabilities, and plan/budget for product/service acquisitions and upgrades.
