JOB SUMMARY: To coordinate and provide instruction in Goodwill Central Coast's Retail Training Academy and Digital Literacy Program in English and Spanish with the objective of building  skills and knowledge in computer basics and the retail environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

  • Provide training (in a group setting) following the Retail Training Academy plan and providing a certificate of completion to those who have completed.

 

  • Provide instruction in a group and individual setting to build digital literacy skills and knowledge in computer basics, internet fundamentals, common application software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook that will prepare employees to obtain digital literacy certifications through CertiPort and Northstar.

 

  • Works with the Director of Training & Development to deliver various training programs throughout the organization.

 

  • Makes recommendations for alternative approaches to training based on obstacles to performance such as limited and underdeveloped work habits and low self-esteem.

 

  • Utilizes internal and external resources for the delivery of training as needed.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES

 

  • Perform related duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education:                                         High school diploma. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

 

License/Certification Required:     Valid California Driver's License.

 

Experience Required:                     One-year experience in training and development of staff.

Creative mind and a people person.

Superior communication, presentation skills and

interpersonal skills are required.

Effective time management skills must be flexible and demonstrate the ability to change course quickly.

Ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, facilitate, monitor, and evaluate).

Ability to interact with employees at all levels in a team environment is a must.

Proficient with MS Office Suite.

 

 

Knowledge Required:                     Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast's mission and general company policies/procedures (this may be learned on the job).

 

Basic math ability.

 

Familiarity with office procedures.

 

Familiarity with computer operation, typical computer programs, and human resources-related automated records systems.

 

Equipment Used:                             Typical office equipment, cash registers, and typical                                                                retail equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, is required.          

 

Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish, orally and in writing, is required.

 

Ability to understand and follow program-specific policies and procedures.

 

Ability to understand and follow Goodwill Mission Services Standard Operating Procedures.

 

Ability to organize and utilize time effectively.

 

Ability to understand instructions and make basic judgments as they relate to the job.

 

Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

 

Ability to maintain a stable working relationship with WDS and regular employees.

 

Ability to interface effectively with all levels of staff, participants and with the public.

 

Ability to perform repetitive work or perform the same work continuously without loss of efficiency or composure.

 

Ability to drive a vehicle in the transaction of company business. This requires a good driving record and may require the ability to provide evidence of personal vehicle liability insurance.

 

Ability to accept responsibility for completion of an activity.

 

Ability to adapt to situations and understand others' feelings and personal viewpoints.

 

Ability to move hands/fingers easily and skillfully to operate keyboard and computer.

 

Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance, as outlined in Goodwill Central Coast's attendance policy.

 

Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.

 

EMOTIONAL EFFORT

 

The job requires emotional effort, involving occasional short deadlines requiring little or no overtime. The work environment varies with periods of isolated high activity/demand.

 

JOB SETTING

 

The job is performed in an enclosed climatically controlled office. Work is completed independently and in cooperation with the Director of T&D, other company personnel, and the public. This job requires travel between Santa Cruz and Monterey County and occasionally San Luis Obispo County.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

The job is primarily sedentary with walking and standing as is necessary to carry out the job duties. Normal lifting and/or carrying is limited to approximately 15 lbs.; with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Heavier items (26 lbs. or more) are moved by using proper material handling equipment, assistance from another person or by work order request.

Normal or corrected talking, hearing and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform the required tasks.
