JOB SUMMARY

 

Carry out diverse, skilled activities involving the repair and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Designate and monitor the work of personnel in order to achieve desired outcomes pertaining to building maintenance/repair, custodial duties, and landscaping.

 

Assist with general building maintenance, grounds keeping and janitorial assignments at the corporate facility. Assist with maintenance at satellite locations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Direct and coordinate the efforts of Facilities staff to complete work orders, as well as participating in the tasks.  Give support to supervisors with regards to accomplishing tasks while referring uncommon personnel or technical issues to the supervisor.

 

Carry out various heating, plumbing, and refrigeration related tasks.

 

Perform welding tasks.  Perform diagnosis and repairs on electronic ignition systems for furnaces and heaters, as well as for hot water heaters.

 

Adhere to safety practices and principles, and to the relevant Federal, State, and Local codes.

 

Work with various machines and equipment, such as hand and power tools, and saws in carrying out maintenance and repair tasks.

 

Ensure the maintenance of equipment and tools in a clean, secure, and appropriate working condition.

 

Engage in thorough troubleshooting to replace or repair fans and motors, bells, clocks and lightening circuits, as well as audio visual and communication equipment.

 

Engage in diverse skill activities such as repairs of roof, doors, windows and other building components.

 

Make an estimate of cost of labor and items needed for work orders; acquires competitive prices for supplies and equipment required by the district.

 

Assist with the maintenance and repair of equipment and structures. This includes, but is not limited to: welding, roofing, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, mechanical, landscaping, maintainance and service of compactors, bailers, Tipers material handling equipment, and power tools.

                                                    

SECONDARY DUTIES

 

Work with clients who are assigned for vocational services as requested.

Perform the tasks of a Maintenance/Janitorial assistant as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

 

SKILLS/APTITUDES/CHARACTERISTICS

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D certificate with five or more years of progressive and practical experience in at least one or more of the skilled trades previously described.

 

Ability to effectively accomplish diverse skilled work in the repair and maintenance of regional facilities.

 

Effectiveness in prioritizing assigned duties and evaluating the work of personnel.

 

Outstanding skills for offering training and leadership to staff for them to be able to successfully carry out diverse duties associated with the building trades.

 

Ability to interpret, illustrate, and apply regulation codes and rules.

 

Ability to carry out operations safely and efficiently; utilize diverse assigned appliances and tools

 

Outstanding ability to interpret sketches, blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to other personnel.

 

Ability to work effectively and cohesively with in a team setting. Cooperation within the team is a requirement.

 

Ability to maintain self-control, deal effectively with management, company personnel and the public.

 

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

 

Demonstrated basic skills in the following: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry (including framing) and roof repair.

 

Ability to drive a vehicle in the transaction of Company business.  This requires a good driving record, and may require the ability to provide evidence of personal vehicle liability insurance.

 

Ability to work from written orders, simple drawings and verbal instructions with minimum supervision while executing work orders and following jobs through to completion.

 

Ability to coordinate hand/eye/foot movement to safely handle and maneuver in/out trucks, operate vehicle controls, tools, walk and/or climb up/down ramp/ladders, lift and carry tools and supplies.

 

Ability to understand and accept directions, follow procedures and perform routine work, adapting to change as it relates to work flow without loss of efficiency.

Ability to use ladders and/or mechanical lifts during the normal operation of duties.

 

Ability to work in small and/or tight/confined spaces during the normal operation of duties

 

Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy.

 

Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.

 

EMOTIONAL EFFORT

 

The job has deadlines requiring frequent overtime. The work environment varies but is often hectic with frequent high activity.

 

                                                 QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education Required:                                 High school diploma or equivalent; eight years of general maintenance technical training preferred.

 

License/Certification Required:                 Valid California class C driver’s license.

 

Experience Required:                             Five years’ industrial maintenance experience, or equivalent.

 

Knowledge Required:                              Basic math ability.

 

                                                              Familiarity with hand and power tools.

 

                                                     Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment and procedures.

 

                                Familiarity with basic material handling techniques and equipment and proper lifting procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).

                                                               

                                Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast’s mission, general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).

 

Equipment Used:                                     Typical maintenance equipment; typical warehouse equipment; vehicles; typical office equipment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JOB SETTING

 

Work is performed approximately 50% inside and 50% outside of buildings.  Temperature and exposure to elements will fluctuate depending on weather conditions where work is performed.

 

There is exposure to dust, dirt, fumes (vehicles, paint, and welding) and other airborne particles. Occasionally must handle household hazardous and cleaning products, ex. paint and weed/insect killer.

 

Occasionally the incumbent must handle household hazardous products which are received in donations.

 

The noise volume is moderately high throughout the day depending on activity performed and equipment in use, from heavy equipment, machine saws, stud guns, forklift and vehicle operation to general office noise.

 

Other work hazards include electricity, power tools/equipment, ladders, forklifts, vehicles.

 

Work is performed independently and in cooperation with others. There is regular contact with co-workers and management with occasional contact with public (suppliers).

 

 

Physical Demands

                                                                              

The job requires regular lifting/carrying of objects up to 25 lbs. with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Heavier items (51 lbs. or more) are moved either with assistance from another person or by using proper material handling equipment.

 

Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
