The Pharmacist is responsible for delivering high-quality pharmacy services in collaboration with primary care providers to improve patient health outcomes. This role ensures compliance with all state and federal pharmacy regulations, manages medication dispensing, verifies prescriptions, counsel patients, and resolves drug therapy issues. The Pharmacist also supervises pharmacy technicians, supports student training, and contributes to organizational goals through participation in projects and team-based care. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, preparing and labeling medications, and advising on drug therapies while upholding patient confidentiality and safety standards.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepares and dispenses medications, verifies prescriptions, and monitors patient drug therapies for safety and effectiveness.
- Provides drug information and counseling to patients and healthcare professionals, supporting optimal therapeutic outcomes.
- Supervises pharmacy technicians and directs workflow to ensure accurate preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
- Maintains compliance with state and federal drug laws, including DEA and FDA regulations.
- Manages controlled substances, maintains accurate records, and removes outdated or damaged inventory.
- Participates in staff education, training pharmacy personnel, students, and healthcare team members.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and compliant work environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Demonstrates strong skills in communication, judgment, pharmacology, legal compliance, and attention to detail.
- Applies reasoning and problem-solving abilities to interpret instructions and resolve operational issues.
- Utilizes computer systems and software effectively for documentation, reporting, and pharmacy
Physical Demands: Duties are generally performed in an office environment where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to stand, bend at the waist, kneel, reach over the head, talk, hear, and see. Must be able to move or lift documents and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires knowledge and use of typical office equipment including telephones, copiers, fax machines, and personal computers. Position requires frequent contact with fellow employees, patients and community. Position may require travel to other sites for work assignments, meetings or training.
