Summary: The Dental Assistant (DA) shall provide excellent customer service. The DA works collaboratively and professionally with the other clinical staff, under the direction of the supervisor and in collaboration of the Dental Team, for the effective and efficient delivery of medical care services. The duties of the Dental Assistant shall not exceed those duties permitted by Utah State Laws. The Dental Assistant is required to perform duties as outlined in this job description.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical & Documentation Duties: Prepare dental charts, assist during procedures, update and review EHR timely, document treatments and supply use, and maintain accurate coding and prior authorizations.
  • Lab, X-Ray & Safety Compliance: Perform lab work and dental x-rays per safety protocols (CLIA, OSHA), ensure lab report follow-up, maintain certifications, and uphold strict patient confidentiality.
  • Quality & Infection Control: Participate in quality assurance activities, check for expired supplies, maintain clean clinical environments, and follow all infection control and sterilization procedures.
  • Scheduling & Patient Communication: Schedule and follow up on appointments, provide pre- and post-op instructions, educate patients on oral hygiene, and ensure timely, courteous communication.
  • Team Collaboration & Patient Flow: Coordinate with team members to ensure smooth clinic operations, respond to internal messages, and assist others as needed to support patient care.

Physical Demands: Duties are generally performed in an office environment where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to stand, bend at the waist, kneel, reach over the head, talk, hear, and see. Must be able to move or lift documents and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires knowledge and use of typical office equipment including telephones, copiers, fax machines, and personal computers. Position requires frequent contact with fellow employees, patients and community. Position may require travel to other sites for work assignments, meetings or training.

Qualifications

Qualifications - Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma and one-year experience preferred.
  • Current Dental Assistant Certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Basic familiarity with dental office routine and terminology.
  • Basic Life Support Certificate required upon hire.
  • Ability to work well as a team, exhibit integrity, use good judgment and keep confidential information.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality consistently.
  • Pass Dental Assistant competency within the first 90 days and annually.

Required Vaccines and Test: Influenza, Tdap, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, TB test, and Negative Drug Test results. Additional Vaccines may be required.
