What You’ll Do

As an ESL Teacher, your work will focus on the following:

Drive Academic Results

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned ESL instruction that supports scholars in acquiring English language proficiency and accessing grade-level content.
  • Use data to monitor scholar progress and tailor instruction to meet individual language learning needs.
  • Foster a classroom environment where scholars feel valued, inspired, and supported to succeed academically and socially.

Foster a Collaborative Culture

  • Partner with classroom teachers to implement effective strategies for English language development and content integration.
  • Participate in weekly professional development sessions, embracing constructive feedback to continuously improve your craft.
  • Share best practices and resources with colleagues to create a school culture of growth and shared accountability.

Provide Specialized Support

  • Administer language proficiency assessments to monitor scholar growth and inform instructional planning.
  • Design and implement strategies to support scholars at varying levels of English proficiency, including newcomers.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements related to English Learners (ELs).

Cultivate Meaningful Relationships

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues to create a supportive school environment.
  • Communicate frequently with families regarding scholar progress, fostering a partnership in their child’s success.
  • Advocate for the needs of English Learners, ensuring equitable access to academic opportunities and resources.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required).
  • Valid ESL teaching certification or enrollment in a state-accredited Alternative Certification Program by the start of employment.
  • Preferred: Previous experience teaching English Learners, particularly in underserved communities.
