Job purpose

Provide quality personal training to club members and their guests. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct individualized fitness assessments to evaluate clients’ physical condition and track progress over time.
  • Design and implement personalized exercise programs that maximize results while incorporating activities that clients enjoy.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and movements to ensure client safety and effectiveness.
  • Provide consistent encouragement, motivation, and support to help clients stay committed and reach their fitness objectives.
  • Greet members upon arrival and ensure proper sign-in procedures are followed.
  • Accurately complete daily documentation for personal training sessions to facilitate timely invoicing and record-keeping.
  • Instruct members on proper equipment usage, make necessary adjustments, and respond to questions regarding fitness techniques.
  • Monitor equipment condition and promptly report any issues or malfunctions to the Fitness Director.
  • Maintain a safe workout environment by removing weights and other hazards from the exercise areas throughout the day.
  • Perform health checks such as taking blood pressure readings upon member request.
  • Oversee workout and group exercise rooms to identify and address any potential safety concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with Fitness Directors and other staff regarding any problems or member needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Fitness Director.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

Education and/or Experience

  • A health- and fitness-focused undergraduate degree with a concentration or coursework in exercise physiology or kinesiology preferred.
  • Two years or more of experience as a personal trainer at a fitness franchise or private club.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations

  • Knowledge of fitness equipment required.
  • Able to perform fitness assessments and apply rehabilitation techniques.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR/AED training.

Licenses and Special Requirements

  • Certification from a recognized and accredited programs such as that offered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) preferred. CSCS, NSCA-CPT, ACSM-CPT, ACSM-EP preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certification

Working conditions

Must often work in a noisy environment.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch.
  • Continuous repetitive motions.
  • Physical exertion over long periods of time.
  • Regular fitness conditioning.
