Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics serves as the lead supervisor of the Intercollegiate Athletics Department and is responsible for enhancing its integrity and competitiveness, and for maintaining a high level of morale, goodwill, and cooperation among athletes, coaches, the University, and the broader community. The Director is vested with the responsibility for the overall operation of the Intercollegiate Athletic programs of the University. Currently, the University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Red River Athletics Conference (RRAC). - Plans, leads, and develops policies, procedures, priorities, and long-range goals for Intercollegiate Athletics that are consistent with the University mission and in compliance with university policies and the Mission and Goals of Intercollegiate Athletics

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans, leads, and develops revenue-generating activities of Intercollegiate Athletics and collaborates with Institutional Advancement on marketing strategies that improve the fundraising efforts of the Intercollegiate Athletic Department
• Plans, leads, and develops the entire student-athlete extra-curricular athletic program and student-athlete development - Responsible for establishing and managing the financial needs of Intercollegiate Athletics and supervises the development, management, and control of the operating budget; in collaboration with the Vice President
• Responsible for establishing procedures that are compliant with the Intercollegiate Athletics rules and regulations of the University, the athletic association, and associated conference, while taking into consideration recommendations of the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) and Intercollegiate Athletics Committee
• Responsible for the management and stewarding of all athletic-related facilities and supporting equipment
• Responsible for the management and supervision of coaches in the performance of their duties and responsibilities
• Responsible for the proper engagement of officials for games and proper administration of all contests
• Responsible for providing leadership in the building and maintaining of highest ideals of academic and athletic performance, sportsmanship, and conduct on the campus
• Responsible for the accurate preparation of eligibility reports, reviewing athletic transcripts and materials for regional and national offices
• Responsible for recruiting, supervising, and evaluating all staff within the Intercollegiate Athletics department
• Responsible for the coordination of all student-athlete wellness checks and drug testing in collaboration with the Athletic Trainer
• Responsible for the proper logistical coordination of contest scheduling, scouting, and team travel in collaboration with the respective coach - Works closely with coaches, student-athletes, Business Office, and the Faculty Athletic Representatives
• Represents the University at all campus, local, state, regional and national meetings concerning Intercollegiate Athletics, attends clinics and annual meetings with NAIA and RRAC coaches and officials (or corresponding athletic association and corresponding conference)

• Bachelor's degree required, Master’s preferred, however previous experience in intercollegiate athletics may be substituted for the Master’s degree (such prior experience must be in intercollegiate athletics at the coaching level and for a minimum of five (5) years at an institution of higher education).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) rules and regulations helpful. - Demonstrated commitment to education and student excellence.
• Administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics.
• Demonstrated decision-making, problem-solving, and collaboration skills with a wide spectrum of university constituents.
• Familiarity with issues facing church-related, historically black colleges and universities.
• Commitment to the mission of the University, to the leadership of the President, and to the potential of each student for academic and personal achievement.

SUPERVISION

• This position reports to the Office of the Chief Operations Officer

SALARY RANGE

• $85,000 annually, plus benefits!

Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University is Austin's first institution of higher education. The University is an independent, liberal arts, church-related, historically black institution located on a 23-acre tree-lined campus near downtown Austin, Texas. The University is affiliated with United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, and the United Negro College Fund. Undergraduate, four-year degrees in business, education, the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences are awarded.
