We’re seeking a creative, compassionate, and energetic Activities Assistant to join our Memory Care team at The Residence at Salem Woods- where every day is an opportunity to bring joy, purpose, and connection to the lives of our Memory Care residents.

Part Time 8:30am-4:30pm. Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays!  


What You'll Do:

As an Activities Assistant, you’ll be helping residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia enjoy enriching experiences that stimulate the mind, body, and spirit. Under the direction of the Reflections Director, you will:

  • Lead and organize daily programming such as arts & crafts, learning opportunities, wellness groups, games, music, exercise, brain challenges, sensory programming, outings and more
  • Motivate residents to participate through positivity and encouragement
  • Foster meaningful one-on-one and group connections
  • Escort residents to and from programs, events, and outings
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for all activities
  • Assist with serving during mealtime and social hour
  • Assist in creating calendars, newsletters, and themed events
  • Drive residents to off-site activities in the community van (as needed)

We’re Looking for Someone Who Is:

  • Outgoing, imaginative, and upbeat – someone who brings NEW ideas to life!
  • Creative and compassionate, with a passion for working with seniors
  • Flexible and dependable, able to pivot with the needs of the day and residents
  • Organized, with strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Experienced in working with individuals with Alzheimer’s or other dementias (preferred)
  • Comfortable working weekends and being on your feet throughout the day
  • Holds a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Computer-literate, familiar with basic office software (Word, Excel, Publisher)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience in recreational therapy, senior care, or memory care is a plus – but we will train the right person
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Physical ability to lift 15+ lbs., bend, stand, and move throughout the day

Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • The ability to assist in the development and implementation of activities required.
    • The ability to create interest in the activities and motivate residents to participate daily is required.
    • Creativity and motivational skills necessary.
    • The ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing is essential.
    • Requires frequent bending, stretching, stooping and lifting.
    • Must be able to perform tasks and work independently.
    • Demonstrates computer literacy and familiarity with office software, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, database managers presentation software and Calendar/Newsletter software
  • Education: A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in the recreational therapy or related field preferred. Gerontology experience preferred.
  • Certificates/Licenses: A valid drivers license in the state of work is required with no more than two moving violations in a three year period as determined by our insurance broker.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Finger and hand dexterity to handle and manipulate instruments and equipment.
    • Visual and auditory acuity.
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of fifteen (15) lbs., and be able to carry objects.
    • Must be able to push and pull carts, and continuously walk, sit and stand.
    • Must be able to turn, crouch, kneel, stoop, bend below waist, and reach above shoulder height as tasks dictate.
