Description

Hampden-Sydney College, founded in 1775, is seeking an energetic, student-centered, and forward-thinking Dean of Admission to help lead the next exciting chapter of our enrollment efforts.  Reporting directly to the Vice President of Enrollment, the Dean will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of enrollment efforts, oversee daily operations (which include on-campus and regional recruiters), and foster collaboration across campus. This dynamic and experienced individual will partner with the Vice President of Enrollment and provide leadership to ensure the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of a talented student body.

Duties
Assists the VP in hiring, developing, and retaining a competent, productive, and effective admission staff. This includes determining staff goals, communicating values, administering policies and procedures, reviewing job descriptions and compensation strategies, and appraising performance. Implements and monitors annual goals for admission officers regarding their assigned geographic territories. Translates each goal into measurable key performance indicators with check-ins at regular intervals.

Develops admissions strategies by contributing information, evaluating trends, and thinking strategically to achieve College objectives. Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive student recruitment plan for prospective students. This includes—but is not limited to—developing an inquiry pool through the use of student search services, ensuring a continuing flow of quality applicants, and managing the College’s outreach programs (college fairs, high school visits, and engagement with high school counselors).

As the College’s chief admission liaison to prospective students and their parents, the Dean counsels’ candidates and their families throughout the recruiting, application, and decision process; counsel candidates and their parents during this process, directing a personalized follow-up program.

The Dean also organizes, manages, and executes all fall and spring on-campus programs for the College. (Including fall open houses, counselor fly-ins, and admitted student days. The dean will also lead the office effort to develop close relationships with high school guidance counselors to strengthen the external image of the College. This role also involves overseeing and directing all special scholarship programs (Hurt Science Scholars, Top Scholars) in collaboration with campus partners.

The dean directs the planning, coordination, and supervision of prospective and accepted student receptions and yield programs in specific geographic areas to increase applications and yield. Additionally, the dean works closely with the VP and Director of Enrollment Operations to effectively administer the College’s prospective and admitted student database via Slate CRM to maximize recruiting efforts. Works cooperatively with other offices on campus to ensure that the integrity of our admission systems and data are maintained and that the systems are utilized productively in support of admission and recruitment functions.

Supervises the completion of applications from all geographic territories to ensure those applications progress through the admissions process in a timely manner. Examines, evaluates, and recommends admission decisions for prospective applicants.

Lastly, the Dean of Admission will retain an industry visibility by attending appropriate professional conferences, participating in deans and director programs, and other instances where they have been invited. On campus, the dean will be a visible member of the community.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 10 years’ experience in Admissions/College Counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.  Master’s degree and admission leadership experience are preferred.  Individual in this role will retain an industry visibility by attending appropriate professional conferences, participating in deans and director programs, and other instances where they have been invited. On campus, the dean will be a visible member of the community.  The hiring salary range is $142,000 - $177,500.
