Summary

The Therapeutic Support Specialist will be responsible for participating in a team based intervention with families along with a Masters Level Mental Health Clinician, Family Partner, the Department of Mental Health, and/or other Flexible Support Services team members.  The interventions are designed to assist families and youth in developing the skills and support that promote family cohesion and successful community living.  The Therapeutic Support Specialist will also offer individual non-school hour mentoring to assist a youth in practicing and applying life-skills such as but not limited to self-regulation, coping skills, self-care, and daily living skills.

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Establish positive working relationships with youth and families referred to the program. 
  • Carry a case load working with youth who will be seen on a weekly basis.
  • Participate in team approach intervention with members of the Flexible Support Services team offering safety planning and treatment services within a therapeutic relationship to assist youth/family in achieving a higher level of functioning. 
  • Provide strengths based services utilizing a wrap around model. 
  • Assist the youth/family in linking to services, supports, community resources, and opportunities.
  • Will provide outreach and community based mentoring which may focus on teaching personal skills related to self-care, social skills, educational and pre-vocational attainment and engaging youth in age appropriate social and recreational activities.
  • Will work with youth/families to assure follow-through of goals within the home and community.
  • Co-facilitate psycho-educational and therapeutic groups that will focus on social and emotional skill building, community integration, and educational and vocational preparation. 
  • Support implementation of a clinician’s treatment/behavior plan. 
  • Provide or arrange transportation as needed to meet youth’s treatment goals.
  • Maintain production expectations and record keeping requirements in accordance with agency standards and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain ongoing collaboration with other service providers including the Department of Mental Health, on behalf of the youth and family. 
  • Participate in appropriate clinical and administrative staff meetings. 
  • Participate in weekly supervision with Licensed Mental Health Clinician.
  • Participate in independent education and training opportunities.
  • Travel within program catchment area that may include towns/cities between Swansea and Wareham

Qualifications & Benefits

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field from an accredited university and experience/interest in child/adolescent/family and home-based interventions with at least 1-2 years of experience working with the target population.  Candidate must be at least 19 years of age and be willing to work flexible hours which may include evenings and weekends.

Travel Required

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation that meets CFS Driver Policy. Travel is required to provide services in different settings and to attend agency meetings, events, and trainings
