Summary/Objective
A Catering Manager, Front of House, oversees event catering operations, ensuring high-quality food and service standards are met, while also managing staff, and client relationships. They coordinate with chefs and event planners to deliver excellent dining experiences. The objective is to execute successful events that satisfy clients and contribute to the overall success of the catering business.

Schedule

This position is a 40-hour week with occasional additional hours as needed to accommodate event schedule. This position will have day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week and may include some holidays.  Hours scheduled are flexible and based on the events scheduled each week.
 

Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)

  • • Schedules all Catering Supervisors, Servers & Serving Assistants.
  • • Supervises entire Catering Service Staff.
  • • Rewarding and sometimes disciplining employees
  • • Works as Floor Manager during Catering Events.
  • • Plans service for each event.
  • • Performs payroll procedures for Server & Serving Assistant Staff.
  • • Works closely with the chef to coordinate meal service.
  • • Prepares room assignments for entire front of house catering staff for each event.
  • • Attends weekly events meeting with event planners and building services.
  • • Attends weekly food service meeting with Director of Food Service
  • • Facilitates meetings with Supervisory Staff.
  • • Ensures Equipment Stewardship in the Catering Department.
  • • Practices & promotes Environmental Stewardship and ensures all policies associated with the DECC’s program of Sustainability.
  • • Additional duties as assigned or delegated by Director of Food Service

 

Skills/Experience Required

  • • Must have supervisory experience in a Food Service operation.
  • • Must have server experience in a full-service catering or restaurant setting.
  • • Prefer degree or equivalent in hospitality experience.
  • • Creative ideas for accommodating guests and events.
  • • Team lead experience.
  • • Work effectively with all DECC team members.
  • • Excellent communication skills.
     

 

Work Environment
Busy high-volume food service operation with catering kitchen, dining areas and arena suites. This position works in an office environment and throughout the DECC complex. While performing the duties of this position, you will frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud (industrial kitchen equipment).

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, they are required to sit, stand, use hands and arms. They must frequently lift up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting and pushing carts. They must be able to navigate busy and crowded areas safely and quickly. There can be long stretches of standing in place.

 

Travel Required
Occasional travel may be necessary.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).  
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.


At-Will Employment
This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.

The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
