The Early Childhood Center at Dwares JCC is seeking a dynamic and flexible Float Teacher to support our high-quality educational programming across multiple classrooms. As a member of our 3 Bright Stars rated team, you'll play a vital role in maintaining our excellent standards while providing nurturing care and education to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

Location: Dwares JCC Early Childhood Center, Providence, RI
Schedule: Full-time or Part-time available

We serve families from diverse backgrounds and create an inclusive community where every child can thrive.

Essential Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Provide coverage in various classrooms (infant, toddler, preschool) as needed
  • Implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities
  • Support lead teachers with daily classroom operations
  • Maintain consistent routines and transitions between classrooms
  • Assist with meal times, nap time, and outdoor play

Child Development & Care

  • Foster children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Support individual children's needs across different age groups
  • Implement positive behavior guidance techniques
  • Observe and document children's progress and milestones
  • Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment

Family & Team Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with families about their child's day
  • Work collaboratively with teaching teams across classrooms
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training
  • Support Jewish cultural programming and traditions
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and families

Administrative Duties

  • Complete required documentation and assessments
  • Ensure compliance with Bright Stars standards and state regulations
  • Assist with maintaining classroom environments and materials
  • Support health and safety protocols

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field preferred
  • Rhode Island Early Childhood Teacher certification or ability to obtain
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1-2 years experience working with young children
  • Experience in licensed childcare or early childhood programs preferred
  • Knowledge of early childhood development principles
  • Ability to work flexibly across different age groups and classrooms
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Cultural sensitivity and appreciation for diversity

  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing classroom needs
  • Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic
  • Ability to lift children and classroom materials (up to 40 lbs)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and play at children's level
  • Capacity to lift and carry children and materials up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to participate in active play both indoors and outdoors
  • Stamina to keep up with energetic young children throughout the day

Background Requirements:

  • A comprehensive background check
  • DCF clearance required
  • DOH required vaccination records for working in an early childhood center
