Business Development Representative (Hospital & Clinical Out

The Business Development Representative (Hospital & Clinical Outreach) is responsible for identifying, building, and maintaining referral relationships with hospitals, behavioral health hospitals, community mental health centers, and medical professionals. This role is focused on driving referrals to The Raleigh House through targeted outreach, on-site relationship-building, and strategic engagement with medical and clinical decision-makers. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal communication skills, professional presence in clinical environments, and a deep understanding of behavioral health systems.

This position plays a key role in expanding our reach within the healthcare ecosystem and ensuring that referring providers are supported with timely information, collaborative communication, and a clear understanding of The Raleigh House’s services and value.

Essential Functions:

  • Hospital & Clinical Outreach
    • Serve as the primary liaison to key local and regional behavioral health hospitals, psychiatric units, medical hospitals, community mental health centers, and physician groups.
    • Conduct routine, in-person site visits to exchange materials, maintain visibility, and build trusted partnerships.
  • Referral Development
    • Cultivate relationships with physicians, social workers, discharge planners, crisis teams, and other referral sources through strategic outreach and regular follow-up.
    • Generate and manage new referral pipelines through networking, cold calling, targeted engagement, and relationship nurturing.
  • Admissions Collaboration
    • Support potential clients, families, and referral sources during the admissions process.
    • Assist in placement coordination when Raleigh House is not the appropriate fit, maintaining a service-first approach to all inquiries.
  • Strategic Communication
    • Deliver clear, professional, and persuasive communication around The Raleigh House’s services, programming, and clinical offerings tailored to the medical and clinical audience.
    • Attend relevant conferences, events, and networking opportunities within the healthcare sector to raise brand visibility.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration
    • Work closely with admissions, clinical, and leadership teams to ensure feedback loops, alignment on service delivery, and continuous improvement in referral partner communication.
  • Brand Representation
    • Promote The Raleigh House mission, values, and services with integrity, professionalism, and clinical fluency.
    • Support branded outreach materials, educational presentations, and partnership meetings.
  • Performance Expectations
    • Meet or exceed KPIs related to:
      • Weekly/monthly outbound calls and in-person visits to hospitals, CMHCs, and providers
      • Inbound/outbound referral activity
      • Strategic growth within hospital and medical verticals

Weekly/Monthly Goals:

Material Drops / On-Site Touchpoints – 10–12 per week

  • Visit behavioral health hospitals, community mental health centers, medical hospitals, and physician groups to introduce yourself, deliver materials, and begin identifying the correct point of contact (discharge planner, care manager, psychiatrist, etc.)
  • Focus on visibility, warm introductions, and gathering intel

Calls/Emails – 20–25 per week

  • Follow up on drop-ins, request meetings, or reach out cold where no in-person access is available
  • Focus on establishing rapport and identifying decision-makers

Meetings – 5–7 per week

  • Once access improves, prioritize face-to-face or virtual meetings with key contacts (hospital social workers, intake teams, program directors, etc.)
  • Many of these may be brief at first, check-ins, coffee meetings, or hallway conversations

Lunch & Learns / In-Services – 1 per month

  • Coordinate with units or departments for structured presentations or Q&A sessions on The Raleigh House
  • These may start small (a single team or shift) and grow over time

Facility Tours / Relationship-Building Visits – 1–2 per month

  • Tour hospitals or invite hospital partners to tour Raleigh House
  • Participate in treatment team meetings or staff events when appropriate

 Focus Areas During Ramp-Up:

  • Build a referral map for key hospital systems and community mental health centers 
  • Identify and document the right contacts at each location (name, title, decision-making power)
  • Track number of new accounts established
  • Establish baseline referral numbers from each vertical

Salary starting at $75,000

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED
  • Public speaking experience
  • Three or more years in customer service or sales position
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Experience in Salesforce or other CRM is required
  • Valid driver’s license or State ID, required, all positions
  • Experience with treatment facilities and/or addictions and mental health populations, preferred
  • Prohibitions: active addiction, use of illicit substances (including THC) at any time during employment, current sponsorship of a current or former (less than 1-year post RH treatment) client.

Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and balance up to 50 pounds (100 pounds with assistance). 
  • May include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, as well as stooping, bending over and/or crouching.
  • On-call or overnight work assignments may be required.
