Recruitment Specialist- Seasonal

The Recruitment Specialist serves as a Girl Scout membership resource, responsible for implementing recruitment strategies to meet council-wide membership goals. Girl Scouts River Valleys is committed to increasing diversity in our membership.  

The role requires collaborating with staff and volunteers, using proven techniques to capture and convert interested families, and conducting engaging Girl Scout activities for youth and caregivers. Candidates must be able to travel locally (30 miles) and work primarily weekend and evening work hours.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Engage Prospective Members – Present the benefits of Girl Scouts to youth and their families at school open houses, community events, and other recruitment opportunities; communicate the variety of ways a family can participate in Girl Scouts.  

• Facilitate Events and Starter Troops – Lead engaging, hands-on activities for youth and families. 

• Support Volunteer Recruitment – Facilitate discussions with parents, caregivers, and potential volunteers about membership opportunities. 

• Utilize Membership Systems – Enter and maintain accurate recruitment data in tracking systems; perform administrative tasks to ensure pre- and post- event success 

• Promote Diversity and Inclusion – Implement outreach strategies to Girl Scout membership growth in diverse communities, particularly Black, Latine, and Hmong communities. 

• Represent the Girl Scout Brand – Maintain professionalism and enthusiasm while promoting Girl Scout values at all events. 

• Flexibility and Travel – Work evenings and weekends, must have reliable transportation for local travel. 

• Additional duties – adapt to shifts in assignment and priorities to support the successful implementation of council goals 

Required Availability 

• Training: July 26, 9am – 4pm  

• Open House: Must be available for 2 days (4pm – 7pm) on August 26, 27, 28 

• Sign-up Events: 3 sign-up events in the month of September 

• Starter Troop: 1 starter troop (4 weeks on a Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs night) in October 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with colleagues across the council. 

• When representing the council to both internal and external audiences, articulate GSRV’s desired image and position to all audiences. 

• Actively support the council’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, racial justice, and anti-racism. Conduct all activities with a high degree of cultural competence. 

• Contribute to building a cohesive, flexible, and productive staff environment that demonstrates the values and mission of Girl Scouts and delivers high-quality customer service.  

• Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement. 

• Become a registered member of GSUSA. 

Skills and Attributes 

• Ability to work evenings and weekends. 

• Willingness to travel throughout local council areas.  

• Provide authentic, responsive volunteer support and customer service and communicate effectively with diverse groups of youth, volunteers, and staff.  

• Strong oral communication skills  

• Ability to work independently to meet goals. 

• Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential information. 

Education and Experience 

• Experience working with youth and families in diverse populations. 

• Experience working in an anti-racist culture built on equity and justice. 

• Experience with outside sales, recruiting, retail, or public relations background. 

• Experience with Girl Scouts. 

• Bilingual (Spanish, Hmong, Somali) preferred. 

Compensation

$24 per hour

While performing the duties of this position, the employee primarily works weekends and evenings and requires reliable transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed. 

Employee is frequently required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to read documents and use a computer.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, or sit. Occasional need to stoop, kneel, or climb. 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment varies by location and is typically quiet to moderate.
