SUMMARY:
York County Community College (YCCC), a dynamic institution with a proud 30-year history of transforming lives and communities throughout York County, Maine, is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic contract instructor to deliver short-term, industry-aligned training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Precision Measurement, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Layout. This training supports local and regional employers in advanced manufacturing and defense-related industries by preparing participants with critical skills in interpreting technical drawings, applying GD&T principles, and performing accurate dimensional inspections using both traditional tools and CMM technologies.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in precision machining, quality inspection, or a related advanced manufacturing field, committed to hands-on instruction, and passionate about student development. They will work closely with YCCC’s Workforce Development team to deliver engaging, relevant training that meets student needs and employer expectations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Â
•   Deliver engaging instruction in GD&T principles, precision measurement techniques, and CMM layout operations to adult learners and incumbent workers.
•   Provide hands-on training with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, surface plates, etc.) and CMM software/hardware.
•   Teach students how to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T symbols to real-world manufacturing contexts.
•   Develop and implement lesson plans, lab exercises, and assessments aligned with industry standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5).
•   Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support mastery of competencies.
•   Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and lab facilities during all instructional activities.
•   Collaborate with YCCC staff to align instruction with employer needs and workforce development goals.
•   Communicate regularly with college staff regarding program outcomes and student success
•   Participate in orientation, training, or evaluation meetings as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Â
•   Significant industry experience in precision machining, quality inspection, or related advanced manufacturing field.
•   Proficiency in GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5).
•   Experience with precision measurement tools and coordinate measuring machines (CMM), including software setup and layout operations.
•   Strong communication skills and ability to teach adult learners with varying levels of prior knowledge.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Â
•   Prior teaching or training experience in higher education, apprenticeship, or industry settings.
•   Certification(s) in GD&T, CMM programming, or related quality/inspection fields.
•   Familiarity with manufacturing and defense industry quality standards (e.g., ISO, DoD).
