POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for examining patients and making diagnoses to determine the need for surgery. Reviewing patients' medical history and planning the best procedure for treatment. Evaluating and advising patients on the risk involved with having surgery. Performing surgical procedures to prevent or correct injury, disease, deformities, and patient function while adhering to regulatory and ethical protocols
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in the development, execution and periodic review of written policies governing the services of the RHC and Hospital and Hospital Medical Staff.
Provides services in accordance with those policies.
Uses EMR/CPOE in a timely manner for all patient related actions.
Dress in a professional manner.
Display good interpersonal skills with patients and families as well as staff members.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Comply with the standards set forth for the Surgeon Provider designation.
Maintain necessary accreditation on required certifications.
Attend bi-monthly Medical Staff meetings.
Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.
Perform other duties as assigned by Administration in accordance with contract.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Analyze patient’s medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operation’s necessity and to determine best procedure.
Operate on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients’ functions.
Follow established surgical techniques during the operation.
Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, diagnostic scopes, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment of the patient’s operative area.
Examine patient to provide information on medical condition and surgical risk.
Diagnose bodily disorders and conditions and provide treatments, such as medicines and surgeries, in clinics, hospital wards, and operating rooms, and procedure rooms.
Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff.
Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons.
Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary.
Prepare case histories.
Manage surgery services, including planning, scheduling and coordination, determination of procedures, and procurement of supplies and equipment.
Use hospital-provided electronic documentation tools for charting, entering orders, and signing notes.
Follows all hospital policies, participating in improvement initiatives as asked.
