POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for evaluating and providing surgical and medicinal therapy of head-and-neck problems. Responsible for examining patients and determining treatments of the ear, nose, throat, base of the skull, head, and neck (i.e. medication, non-invasive surgeries, surgeries). Responsibilities also include monitoring and reporting on treatment progress and referring patients to other specialists if needed.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in the development, execution and periodic review of written policies governing the services of the RHC and Hospital and Hospital Medical Staff.

Provides services in accordance with those policies.

Uses EMR/CPOE in a timely manner for all patient related actions.

Dress in a professional manner.

Display good interpersonal skills with patients and families as well as staff members.

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Comply with the standards set forth for the Surgeon Provider designation.

Maintain necessary accreditation on required certifications.

Attend monthly Medical Staff meetings.

Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.

Perform other duties as assigned by Administration in accordance with contract.

 

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Consulting with patients to understand their symptoms and health concerns.

Prescribing tests, treatments, and/or surgery, when necessary.

Maintaining detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.

Performs surgical procedures on the ear, nose, and throat.

Performs diagnostic procedures on ear, nose, and throat.

Assesses, diagnoses, and treats conditions that may cause the ears, nose, or throat to become diseased or damaged.

Treats diseases of the ear, nose, or throat, such as nasal polyps, benign and malignant tumors, cysts, and infections.

Provides patient support services, such as preparing patients for surgery, providing instruction on post-operative care, and instructing patients on medication use.

Investigates and diagnoses conditions of the ears, nose, and throat, such as infections, tumors, and deformities.

Performs otorhinolaryngologic surgery

Assisting and/or performing surgery which may include complex surgical interventions that require a team of medical professionals.

Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term care.

Training and providing educational support to junior staff, when necessary.

Prescribing medication and creating treatment plans, referring patients for surgery when necessary.

Informing and educating patients on available treatments and preventative care.

Follow established surgical techniques if operating.

Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment of the patient’s operative area.

Examine patient to provide information on medical condition and surgical risk.

Diagnose bodily disorders and conditions and provide treatments, such as medicines and surgeries, in clinics, hospitals, and operating rooms.

Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff.

Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons.

Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary.

Prepare case histories.

Manage surgery services, including planning, scheduling and coordination, determination of procedures, and procurement of supplies and equipment

Qualifications

Graduation from an Accredited Professional School or Program recognized for its quality education in otolaryngologist.

Board Certified or board eligible.

Licensed in the State of Michigan.

Current DEA license.

BLS, ACLS, AND PALS certified.

2 years’ working full-time as a otolaryngologist and MD.
