Job Summary
The position of Public Safety Officer supports Covenant House NY's mission to foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for its clients, staff, and visitors. Public Safety Officers will be required to execute a number of comprehensive and integrated security measures and countermeasures. Officers must be able to adapt physically and psychologically to Covenant House NY's changing needs and priorities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Responsibilities to include, but not limited to the following)

Understand and follow the safety procedures.

Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel

Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

Gather data, compile information, prepare and write reports

Knowledge of searching procedures and safety inspections
-
Conduct safety patrols in and around buildings as assigned

Basic computer knowledge required, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.

Operate all departmental equipment, including radios, cameras, computers, and online applications.

Listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Respond to calls for assistance with urgency
-
Conduct emergency drills according to prescribed procedures
-
Comfort in enforcing crowd control procedures
-
De-escalate/intervene in physical/verbal altercations
-
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings/overnights, and holidays
-
Performs other duties as assigned and/or needed.
