Area Directors assist in creating opportunities for student learning in line with this philosophy.
The primary functions of this role include work within the following domains:
- Community Development, Leadership, & Role-Modeling
- Student Engagement, Leadership, & Programming
- Student Staff Supervision & Evaluation
- Crisis Management & On-Call Response
- Administrative & Operational Tasks
- Student Conduct & Well-Being

- Inclusion and Belonging
- Student-Staff Search, Training, & Development
- Additional Duties as Assigned
Area Directors assume responsibility for the overall operation and leadership of residential areas housing 100-300 students in the residence halls, college houses, and campus apartments. Area Directors lead efforts alongside student-staff to build intentional communities that are culturally rich, socially robust, and inclusive. Area Directors supervise and develop multiple student-staff, including undergraduate Hall Directors and Resident Assistants within their assigned area.
Because the position's primary functions include working with student leaders, programming, advising student groups, facilitating the student conduct process, and responding to emergencies after typical working hours, the position requires a high level of campus visibility with regular evening and weekend commitments.
