Role Summary:

The Assistant Accounting Manager/Team Leader is responsible for leading the preparation of financial reports. Ensure complete, accurate, and timely completion of financial and accounting records for the credit union and prepare analysis of operations for management. Develop, manage, and maintain reliable accounting information and reporting on income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and capital for management planning and decision making and for fulfillment of financial reporting requirements. Oversee the reconcilement of general ledger and bank accounts. Ensure company accounting procedures conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Make recommendations for process improvement and perform administrative duties for all areas of responsibility.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Lead the operations of the Accounting Department include accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgets, cash flow cost management, credit and collections, financial analysis, financial reporting and recordkeeping, general ledger, investments, taxes, and wire systems. 
  2. Lead the daily operations of the credit union’s payroll function. Maintain confidential information as it relates to payroll.
  3. Lead and oversee preparation of all financial, statistical, and accounting records.  Oversee the payment of all liabilities of the credit union.
  4. Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
  5. Assist in the formulation/execution of credit union policies, objectives, and programs.
  6. Lead the annual budget process and forecast as it relates to the Accounting Departments.
  7. Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
  8. Lead all accounting projects and be the point person for the Accounting Department for projects outside the department.
  9. Understand and perform Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) functions as applicable to job responsibilities.  
  10. Attend credit union training session, conferences, or seminars as approved by supervisor. Maintain awareness of policies and regulations related to duties and responsibilities. Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
  11. Collaborate with the Sr. Controller to establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  12. Delegate, coordinate and review work in the Accounting Department to ensure quality and timely work. 
  13. Set daily, weekly, and monthly priorities to ensure Accounting Department is providing appropriate service to Internal and External partners, while meeting all expectations and requirement of the Department. 
  14. Responsible for ensuring all reconcilements are being performed in an accurate and timely basis. 
  15. Evaluate, design, and implement operationally effective accounting processes, as warranted. 
  16. Coordinate the development and maintenance of written Accounting Department procedures.   
  17. Collaborate with and provide assistance to personnel in other departments to prepare for significant business opportunities. 
  18. Work with auditors and examiners on annual audits and regulatory examinations as requested. 
  19. Recruit and interview applicants and make recommendations for hiring. Assist in training new employees.
  20. Serve on Credit Union committees as assigned.
  21. Perform financial analysis and data analytics, where applicable.  
  22. Direct accumulation accounting and finance information for financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  23. Maintain and protect all sensitive data utilizing the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism. Consistently display respect for all areas of diversity and levels of knowledge.
  24. Ensure all activities are in accordance with GAAP and accounting records are maintained accurately and incompliance with regulations and laws. Maintain understanding of NCUA Rules & Regulations, the Federal Credit Union Act and the Credit Union Bylaws and Policies, and report impact/changes may occur regarding the department.

  7. Work with minimal supervision
  8. Knowledge of MS Office at an intermediate to advanced level

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Accounting, Finance or Business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance
  2. CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
  3. Eight (8) to ten years of similar or related experience.
  4. Five (5) years of credit union or financial institution environment experience.
  5. Proficient with standard office equipment, word processing and reporting, and spreadsheets. 
  6.  Advanced understanding of accounting procedures required. Prior experience performing financial analysis or financial services in a credit union or similar sector desired.
  7.  Ability to effectively lead and mentor team members.
  8. The ability to work independently and set priorities with limited management oversight.
  9.  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  10.  Some travel is required to fulfill duties, or complete training and responsibilities.
  11.  A valid Driver’s License is required.

Salary Range:

Richland, WA: $86,586.54 - $129,879.81

Tukwila, WA: $97,915.62 - $146,873.43

Spokane, WA: $78,898.95 - $118,348.43
