Role Summary:

Reporting to the AVP of Collections and Loan Servicing, the Collections Manager/Team Leader preserves the credit union assets by controlling delinquent accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments, recovering collateral, and setting goals and targets for the department. This position will lead department personnel-related issues including participation in the hiring process, scheduling, coaching, monitoring, performance evaluations and correcting performance or behavior deviations utilizing the progressive discipline process. Responsibilities include overseeing the bankruptcy functions to mitigate loss to the credit union. Always maintain a professional demeanor while working with members, vendors, and staff.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Lead, motivate and provide directions to the credit union’s Collections Team. This includes coaching, mentoring, and evaluating the performance and behavior of individual collectors; monitoring and managing the productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the credit union’s collection function; and establishing and maintaining clear and productive lines of communication with all stakeholders
  2. In partnership with the credit union’s Credit Risk Management function, develop, monitor, and periodically report on metrics that measure department level and individual staff level productivity, efficiency and effectiveness and ensure that all standards are clearly defined for all functions and for all stakeholders
  3. Maintain the credit union’s delinquent accounts at or below acceptable levels to be identified by credit union management or industry standards
  4. Ensure all collection activity is legal and follows credit union policy. Keep management informed of operational issues affecting the credit union’s collection activities. Provide monthly (or as requested) reports which reflect all collection activities
  5. Analyze the financial situation of delinquent borrowers. Take action to repossess collateral when arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful
  6. Testify at legal proceedings as required
  7. Supervise the bankruptcy functions currently assigned to the Bankruptcy Specialist position, to include assisting assignments to our internal legal counsel
  8. Review collectors’ work queues to monitor and measure performance
  9. Inform management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans
  10. Must understand and perform Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) functions, as applicable to job responsibilities
  11. Attend credit union training sessions, conferences and seminars as approved by supervisor. Maintain awareness of policies and regulations related to duties and responsibilities
  12. Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with individual team members
  13. Maintain a cohesive, highly trained, and motivated staff sufficiently to meet department goals and demands
  14. Perform personnel-related staffing, scheduling, training, and performance evaluation of all assigned staff. Adhere to the progressive discipline process and respond to performance or behavior deficiencies promptly
  15. Develop recommendations for cost efficiencies, process improvements, pricing, and enhancements to products by monitoring trends in loan performance
  16. Maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness
  17. Maintain and protect all sensitive data utilizing the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism. Consistently display respect for all areas of diversity and levels of knowledge.
  18. Display leadership values, act in the best interest of the credit union
  19. Lead by example, control risk, and manage/operate in a safe manner
  20. Work closely with the IT Administrators and all management personnel in the credit union to ensure a collaborative effort

  7. Ability to direct, train, lead and motivate assigned staff to complete all tasks assigned accurately and within time prescribed

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  1. Four (4) year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school in collections; additional related experience may be recognized as an equivalency to education requirements
  2. Five (5) to eight (8) years of similar or related experience. Financial Institution collection experience desired
  3. Experience leading, directing, training, and motivating assigned staff
  4. Travel is required to complete training, fulfil duties and/or perform responsibilities
  5. A valid Driver License is required
  6. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, software, and standard office equipment. Experience with Temenos or similar collection system desired. Experience with DNA desired
  7. Thorough knowledge and understanding of credit union services and products preferred

Salary Range:

 $86,586.54 - $129,879.81
