GenUS is hiring an Aspire K-8 Career Coordinator Brewer

Summary of Responsibilities:  Aspire K - 8 Career Coordinator will collaborate with Brewer Community School, Brewer High School, and Generation US (a JMG affiliate). The focus of this partnership is to continue to advance how Brewer School District prepares students for life after high school. This is an exciting but challenging multi-year, system-wide change initiative. This position will coordinate with educators, businesses and community organizations to empower kindergarten through eighth grade students to explore, and be exposed to, various occupations and career pathways. To this end, the Aspire K - 8 Career Coordinator will facilitate career based learning experiences including information about career options, career pathways, educational requirements and related employment for all students. Additionally, this position will facilitate guest speakers, industry tours, interactive career fairs, and other workplace learning experiences for Brewer Community School students.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Coordinate the development and implementation of workforce development activities, including information about career options, career pathways, educational requirements and related employment for students, including school-wide events such as a Guest Speaker Series or an interactive career fair.

  2. Coordinate and facilitate professional development opportunities for educators and businesses to collaborate to develop meaningful experiences for students.

  3. Partner with school district personnel to coordinate communication-based projects. A variety of these projects are expected to be developed throughout the duration of this initiative, and may range from supporting concepts such as “Future Story”, assisting in synthesizing and developing key messages, ordering and displaying collateral marketing materials.

  4. Work with other team members to prepare informational presentations, including content and aesthetics, about the Aspire initiative, including the creation of supporting materials such as hand-outs, PowerPoint presentations, and/or summaries.

  5. Work closely with Brewer community and business partners to establish relationships to improve workforce development in the area and student opportunities for career development. 

  6. Build and maintain positive relationships with members of communities in the Brewer catchment area including local Regional Chambers of Commerce, United Technologies Center, and Eastern Maine Community College, colleges and universities to strengthen collaborations.

  7. Work cooperatively with district, school, and business leadership teams to establish program goals, priorities, and best practices.

  8. Collect and analyze program data to determine attainment of annual goals and provide a written report to the Brewer School Board, JMG, and the MELMAC Education Foundation annually regarding the strengths and challenges of the program.

  9. Work closely with the surrounding towns to better understand the economic development activities of the community and work collaboratively to determine methods within which Brewer students can become more involved to help promote continued growth.

  10. Work closely with Brewer educators to increase awareness of the local economic development and business climate by bringing in speakers for in-service days and other professional development opportunities for staff.

  11. Collaborates closely with Brewer school counselors to enhance awareness of personal growth opportunities, foster positive behavior, and inspire students to set and pursue meaningful academic, social, and career aspirations. Actively contributes to a culture of respect, responsibility, and resilience through targeted programs and intentional relationship-building.

  12. Work closely with Brewer students to make them more aware of economic development and business climate by bringing in speakers and organizing trips to area businesses.

  13. Report directly to a JMG supervisor and attend JMG regional meetings and statewide trainings, events, and meetings.

  14. Attend MELMAC Peer Learning Sessions and Brewer staff professional development, as assigned.

  15. Perform relevant tasks and duties as assigned by the JMG supervisor, Brewer School District administration and/or the Superintendent of Schools.

Qualifications and benefits

  1. Bachelor’s degree required and Elementary or Secondary Teacher Certification preferred.
  2. State of Maine CHRC (fingerprinting) approval or ability to obtain one.
  3. Experience working with a wide range of students and with a minimum of two years of professional experience working with students with disadvantages and/or youth-related workforce development.
  4. Skills in relationship building, leadership, supervision, public speaking, and motivational techniques.
  5. Ability and willingness to work year-round, including evenings, weekends, and some travel.
  6. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  7. Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
  8. Ability to educate a variety of constituencies and interested parties about the program by developing ongoing relationships and making formal presentations.
  9. Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities.
  10. High proficiency in computer skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $43,750 per year, with additional performance-based bonuses.
  • Paid Time Off: Includes school vacation weeks in December, February, and April, plus 15 additional vacation days.
