Summary of Position
The Imaging Specialist is responsible for performing Quality Control functions on all cases and taking digital microphotographs on designated cases for final pathology report.
The Imaging Specialist will follow the direction of the supervisor while taking initiative in performing and promoting quality and efficiency within the department. The Imaging Specialist will be trained in the expected task in order to meet the competency set by the department.
Key Job Elements
- Photomicrographs area of interest of specimens to be included on final report.
- Performs a Quality Control (QC) function during the image capture process ensuring:
- Slides and tissue types match and correlate with gross description.
- All pertinent slides are present.
- Specimen type field matches gross.
- Applicable upfront levels and stains were ordered.
- Accuracy of the gross description.
- Assists in the identification and research of discrepancy cases to determine the origin of variance utilizing appropriate documentation under the supervision of the PA Supervisor.
- Performs Quality Control (QC) check of controls submitted with patient cases provided by specific TCPC clients, to ensure the accuracy of the immunohistochemistry staining.
- Demonstrates the ability to accurately prioritize and triage cases based on the laboratory’s procedural manual.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and immediately notify the histology supervisor/manager, technical supervisor, or director.
- Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests as required. Maintains all necessary documentation and current logs.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the company.
- Reports all concerns of quality, patient care, and/or employee safety to a Supervisor or Safety Officer.
- Maintains a clean work environment.
- Has a good understanding and working knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
- Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as required.
