Summary of Position

The Slide/Block Laboratory Aide position provides support to client services, Pathology Assistants, and the pathology staff. The Slide/Block Lab Aide is responsible for following all standards, policies, and procedures of Inform Diagnostics.

• Files blocks and slides in numerical order.

• Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.

Knowledge/Experience
 

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor of Science in biology or related field preferred.
• Prior experience in the medical field preferred.
• Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline driven environment.
• Ability to file items in numerical order.
• Ability to send out specimens to various reference testing laboratories.
• Ability to work with client services to resolve patient and client issues.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, general working knowledge of Internet for business use, and skilled in operating office equipment such as fax machines and copiers.
• Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.

Lab Specific Qualifications  
 

• Visual acuity (including color discrimination) and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.
• Ability to tolerate extensive periods seated and/or standing.
• Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
• May have exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
• May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents; handle live human specimens, tissues, and bodily fluid.
