Summary of Position
The AP Lab Trainer is responsible for delivering, tracking, and facilitating bench level training for the Anatomic Pathology lab. Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures. Works under Manager’s supervision and follows standard operation procedures to accomplish assigned tasks. This position requires the ability to fully understand all equipment, its maintenance, and processes. Participates in and coordinates continuing education/in-service training sessions as needed for the departments.
Key Job Elements
- Develops training curriculum to support the needs of the Anatomic Pathology lab for technical and non-technical roles
- Coordinate, facilitate and conduct individual training to include new hire onboarding
- Submit recommendations for training materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids for training
- Assesses teammates qualitatively and quantitatively and provides feedback to Supervisor or Manager in relation to progress
- Ensures competency completion and works with the Quality team to ensure personnel files are up to date regarding training
- Assists with CAPA/OM investigations
- Conducts process audits to verify standard processes are followed
- Review and update SOPs
- Must maintain schedule flexibility dependent on training needs
- Performs routine histology including specimen processing, embedding, slide preparation, microtomy, staining, and immunohistochemistry.
- Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensures correct patient labeling. Correctly prepares special stains and solutions. Routinely checks and verifies that surgical case numbers match blocks and slides; prints labels as appropriate.
- Maintains laboratory QC logs daily
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoots minor equipment failures. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests.
- Follows appropriate laboratory safety protocols.
- Adheres to laboratory’s quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
- Ensures compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
- Adheres to attendance and punctuality guidelines.
