Summary of Position
Histology Laboratory Supervisors are responsible for overseeing daily routine laboratory operations on a designated shift to ensure that all policies and procedures are carried out, schedules are consistent with workflow plans, and the department meets production requirements while maintaining adherence to Quality Control (QC) and regulatory guidelines.
Key Job Elements
- Provide daily supervision of moderate complexity test performance for routine histology functions, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
- Maintain established performance and production standards, assure remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- Assists with the selection, training, mentoring, employee scheduling, annual goal setting, performance evaluation, and coaching of the lab team.
- Evaluate the competency of laboratory personnel and assure employees maintain their competency to perform procedures, including, but not limited to:
- Direct observations of routine patient test performance, including patient preparation, if applicable, specimen handling, processing, and testing.
- Reviewing quality control records, proficiency testing results, and preventative maintenance records.
- Directing observation of the performance of instrument maintenance and function checks.
- Acts as the first point of contact on technical, procedural, and policy questions. Keeps the team informed of new processes and general updates.
- Assist with all histology lab tasks as needed.
