Description

Oglethorpe University seeks applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in Mathematics to begin August 2026: one in the area of Probability or Statistics and the other open to any Mathematical specialty.  This position is for an Assistant Professor of Mathematics (tenure-track) position with a specialty in Probability or Statistics.

The successful candidates will join five faculty as a contributing member of the Mathematics faculty. We strive to provide a collegial, egalitarian, supportive, and healthy work environment. As such, our new faculty partners can expect that your Mathematics colleagues will happily provide mentorship and support (e.g. course materials, guidance on performance reviews, etc.) in the transition to a new work environment. Additionally, our new faculty will have full voices into programmatic decision-making concerning Mathematics, such as curriculum development, promotion of our disciplines across campus, development of new tracks and related majors, and program assessment.

 

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. or equivalent in Mathematics (focus in Probability or Statistics) or Statistics. 

Candidates should be comfortable teaching across the spectrum of foundational, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate probability and statistics courses as well as some mathematics courses. In addition to the lower-division and upper-division courses that support the Mathematics programs at Oglethorpe, faculty teach in the Core program through the regular offering of Mathematics and Human Nature, a required course for all undergraduates. The ability to teach courses in Actuarial or Computer Science is especially welcomed.

    • At least two references we may contact for a Letter of Support
      • At least one reference should be able to address the applicant’s teaching.
